Both my parents are retired and when I look at their lifestyle, I can’t wait to retire. I’m sure they are on holiday more than they are at home. Not that I begrudge them at all, they both worked hard all their life to give my brother and I a lovely life as children and now they get to enjoy this time.
I was chatting to my mum the other day about their next trip, as they are planning a break to Jersey and we visited their last year. Plus we went a few times as children with my parents. Jersey is such a beautiful place and because they can go on the ferry with their car, it gives them more freedom when they arrive to get around the island.
I know my parents can’t wait to go and see our favourite beach Greve de Lecq. I took Andy and the girls on our trip and it was just as I remembered and I know they will think the same.
My mum was asking me about the hotel we stayed at and would it be suitable for them. Of course, I just said, yes, we loved it and would definitely recommend it. Then she was asking me about the layout of the rooms, and the bathroom facilities because what I hadn’t considered is that their needs change as they get older. Mobility isn’t the same and baths, or showers over baths can sometimes be tricky. They need walk in baths and showers like the ones Premier Bathrooms provide.
At the moment as parents of young children, our needs are very different and it was a reminder to me that as my parents get older, their needs change too. There are different things that you need to look at when travelling in your retirement.
Thankfully a lot of places are mindful of this and have rooms that are suitable. My parents are now really excited about their trip to Jersey and I am very jealous.
