When I was growing up as a child I lived in the same house and my parents still live there now. I had no experience of what moving house was like. As an adult I have moved house more times that I can remember and it’s become a bit of a running joke that I’m a serial house mover!
It does however mean that I’ve become very good at it and I’m going to share with you my top tips for a stress free house move.
Lists, Lists and More Lists
I love a list and if there was ever a time that you need a list it’s when you’re moving house. There is so much that needs to be done and having a list will help to keep you in order. Plus there is nothing more satisfying than ticking it off.
Moving house can be really expensive, make sure that you have a budget for everything and a contingency sum of money for those extras that can come at the last minute.
I know that you’ve already spent a lot of money to move house. But take it from someone that has moved house themselves and also used a removal firm. I would always now use a removal firm, they make it a lot less stressful. They will give you all the boxes you need, most firms don’t need you to empty draws which is amazing and saves a lot of time. They will take down your beds and re-build them in your new home. Meaning that you don’t spend a night just sleeping on a mattress.
Finding the right removal firm couldn’t be easier with Shiply.
Moving Day Survival Kit
This will save your life on move day. Get a large box and pack all the essentials that you and your family will need on move day. I include things like phone charger, bottle of water, snacks, breakfast supplies for the first morning in your new home (in case you haven’t found that box yet!). You and the removal firm will need hot drinks, I pop my kettle, mugs, tea, coffee, milk and biscuits too.
I also have another box that I keep with me that has all my cleaning products in. Then I can clean the new house as soon as we arrive and before I unpack my belongings.
It’s exhausting moving house and at the end day you won’t have much energy to cook dinner. Treat yourself with a take away, we always have fish and chips. It’s also a nice way to thank anyone that has helped you with the move. For me this is always my parents.
I hope these tips are useful and help you have a stress free move!
