We’ve been a big fan of the book We’re Going On A Bear Hunt for quite a while in our house. It’s always a fun book to read and if we’ve read it during the day it normally leads to the girls then going on an actual bear hunt, which is cute to watch.
We were really excited to receive the We’re Going on a Bear Hunt 4-in-1 games box. It includes, 4 shapes in a row, matching bingo, twisted pairs and snap.
It is aimed at 3+ and with Holly coming up for three I thought I would play one of the games with her on a Friday morning before we went to ballet.
I choose the 4 shapes in a row games, as she is very good with her colours and we’ve been doing lots around shapes recently. You put together the board and there are two sets of counters, the ladybirds and the bumble bees, Holly went for the ladybirds. You also need the spinner.
The idea is that by spinning the spinner you either land on a colour and then place one of your counters on any shape that is the correct colour. Or if you land on a shape, you place your counter on the correct shape, regardless of what colour it is.
Also on the spinner is an ‘steal’ option and if you land on that you get to remove one other person’s counter. Sneaky!
Holly really enjoyed this game and it was great to see her know the colours and learn her shapes.
Alice couldn’t wait to play the games and choose to play matching bingo first, the cards you need are on the reverse of the 4 shapes in a row game. You each need a bingo card and some counters. There is also some picture cards that you will need and place them picture face down.
You take it in turns to turn over the picture cards and if anyone has the picture on their bingo card they mark it with a token. You have to pay special attention to the picture cards, as they can look the same but the background colour will be different.
The winner is the first player to get five tokens in a row in any direction. They shout out Bingo, which Alice loved.
We then played snap, a game that Alice is familiar with and is always a favourite. All you need is the pack of cards and you deal out all the cards to the players.
They have them face down in a stack without looking. Then you take it in turns to turn over your cards and if two cards match in a row the first person to shout ‘snap’ wins the cards and places them in their pile.
When one player has all the cards, they are the winner!
The final game is Twisted Pairs and we haven’t had chance to play this one yet. You shuffle all the cards and place them face down on the table. You take it in turns to turn over two cards and if they are identical cards, then that player takes them.
Play continues until all the cards have been collected and the winner is the person with the most cards.
We’ve had so much fun playing these games and I know we are going to get a lot of enjoyment out of them for many years. It’s another great game to be able to take away with you, as the box is small and gives you four great games to play.
You can buy this fabulous game from Paul Lamond Games, RRP £11, they also have some great products from other well loved characters.
Disclosure: We were sent our game in return for an honest review, as always all views and opinions are my own.
