If there are two things that we love as a family it is reading books and pizza. I love that Alice is now able to read a book to me and she has come so far with her reading this year, it makes me very proud. I was and still am a book worm and to see my girls following after me is lovely.
Last week the girls and I took a trip to Bournemouth, as we were invited by Pizza Express to come and take a look at their activity packs for children and there was going to be an artist in the restaurant who would draw the girls a picture.
Pizza Express and Puffin Books have come together to inspire a generation. With the Story Explorers activity pack there is lots for them to do, which is not only great fun and gets their imaginations working. But of course it helps to pass the time while we wait for those amazing pizzas to arrive!
While we were waiting for our food the artist came over and introduced himself to the girls and he told them that he would draw them a picture of any animal that they wished for. Alice knew immediately that she wanted a Kangaroo, which surprised him and he asked where that idea came from.
She told him that her nanny had been to Australia and seen a Kangaroo and she wanted one too. He then asked Holly what she loved and it was no surprise that she said a unicorn. He told them that he would go and start on their drawings and would bring them over when he had finished.
Alice and I started to go through the activity pack and the first section we did was ‘Pick Your Adventure’. This was a series of choices Alice had to pick and follow the path to discover which book might inspire her.
It didn’t surprise me that Alice’s choices took her to the Julia Donaldson book called The Giant Jumperee. Alice just loves her books and this book is now on her wish list for her birthday.
There was also a section all about The Giant Jumperee and it asked you to draw an imaginary animal like the Jumperee.
There was a section all about outer space, where Alice could colour, count the rockets and write a letter from space, by turning pictures to words.
Our food then arrived and of course every Pizza Express meal starts with the amazing dough balls. They were so amazing that I nearly forgot to take a photo of them.
Followed by a pepperoni and chicken pizza for Alice and a margarita for Holly.
As a pizza loving family their pizza’s are delicious and I went for the La Reine.
Whilst we were eating our pizza’s the artist came over with the girls finished drawing. He got them to close their eyes while he revealed them in turn.
I think their faces tell you how much they loved them. Alice loved that her kangaroo was eating pizza like her!
This really was a lovely idea and the girls couldn’t wait to take them home to show daddy. We are going to frame them and put them up in their bedrooms as they are gorgeous.
The artist was making his way around all the tables in the restaurants with children to bring their animals to life too. I’m sure lots of children left Pizza Express even happier that day and hopefully inspired too.
While we waited for our desserts Alice did the word search in the activity pack. She loves doing them and it’s a great way to help her learn to read words and spot words.
Our desserts arrived and the girls were very happy to see a cone sticking out the top of their ice cream. It comes with a baby chino too, that Alice just loves.
I went for the new sticky toffee bundt cake with salted caramel ice cream and it was amazing!!
Pizza Express and Puffin Books are giving you the chance to win a family portrait drawn by Jeff Kinney, author of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and if that wasn’t enough you also win all 12 books in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. You have until the 18th June 2018 to enter and you can find all the details on their website.
With the activity pack inspiring them, it didn’t take long for Alice to have her book cover designed and ready to go.
The girls and I had a lovely meal at Pizza Express, the food was delicious, the staff were great with the girls and they were kept well entertained. Plus we have our beautiful drawing to keep forever, I’m sure they will be expecting this every time we visit now.
Disclosure: We were kindly invited by Pizza Express to experience the new activity pack and I was compensated for my time.
