Our 2018 Bucket List…How Did We Do!

Our 2018 Bucket List…How Did We Do!

I can’t actually believe that its the end of 2018, this year has gone by so quickly, its crazy. But it has also been a pretty amazing year for us as a family.

It also means it’s time to have one final look at how we did at our Bucket List for 2018.

We’ve not quite managed to do everything around the house. It all takes time and money, both things we’re short on! But, I am really pleased with everything that we have achieved. Because even though they weren’t on our bucket list, we have re-decorated both the girls bedrooms and I love them so much.

  1. Decorate one of the downstairs rooms, either the lounge or the family room.
    • The family room is still 95% done, I still have the new lights to get put up. I just keep forgetting to organise for someone to come and do it for us.
  2. Decide what we’re doing with our garden and start work on it.
    • What we want to do is going to take a bit of saving and it won’t be done this year. Which is frustrating, but that’s life. I didn’t realise it would cost so much!! – Whilst we won’t be doing all the garden this year, we have got someone coming to do some of it this month, as this is the right time of year to get it done. But the main garden won’t be done yet.
  3. If we save enough money, decorate our bedroom.
    • Our bedroom is all finished and I love it. It is one of my favourite rooms in the house. When I say it is finished, is a room ever finished? I’m sure I will be adding little bits to it all the time.
  4. Have a gallery wall going up the stairs.
    • I’ve found a company that make this look easy to do, but I did to save up some to get this done. Definitely a job for 2019!

The Girls…

We managed to tick all these off, which I’m really pleased about.

  1. Remove Alice’s stabilisers
    • Yes!! Alice can now ride her bike, without stabilisers and without our helpShe is a very happy little girl and we now need to buy her a new bike for her birthday.
  2. Teach Holly how to ride her bike correctly
    • Yes, Holly can ride her bike! She is so cute on it and motors after Alice now.
  3. Bake once a month with the girls
    • We’ve been doing lots of baking and we made a lemon cake this month, which the girls loved doing and I loved eating it.
  4. Have an Easter Egg Hunt
  5. Plant and grow sunflowers
    • Yes! Alice and I went and planted our sunflower seeds last week and now waiting to see if they will grow (please grow better than last year!).
  6. Have a birthday party for Holly and Alice
    • Alice loved her Build a Bear party, my mum and I did ourselves at home and it was brilliant fun. All the friends loved their bears. We went to Paultons Park on Holly’s birthday and she loved it. We then just had family round for a little party, as I decided not to do a big friends party this year. Plenty of time for that now she is at school.

Andy and I…

  1. Have a night away together
    • Andy and I had a lovely night away in CambridgeWe went punting which we loved and it’s great fun. We had a lovely dinner out, did some shopping and just enjoyed it being us for a little while. The girls loved their sleepover at nanny’s house.
  2. Go to the cinema
    • We’ve only done this as family. But we didn’t manage to do it just the two of us, mainly because there wasn’t a film that we both wanted to see!
  3. Have a day date
    • Yes! Normally on the rare occasion we have a day date, we go shopping and for lunch. But Andy had the brilliant idea to use our Merlin Annual Passes and we went to Thorpe Park for the day. It was a lot of fun and the perfect choice.
  4. Andy to go to a football match/cricket game
    • Andy has been to a football match with his friends and also a Rugby match.
  5. Laura to have a spa day
    • I had an unexpected birthday surprise from one of my closest friends who took me to the spa for the day. It was amazing and just what I needed.
  6. Have friends over for dinner/BBQ
  7. Watch a sunset
    • We kind of did this in Cornwall. It wasn’t how I would plan for us watch a sunset. Alice fell poorly while we were away and we had to take a visit to the local hospital. On the way home, there was the most gorgeous pink sunset and Alice asked me to pull over for her to see it. As it was her birthday too, I would’ve done anything for her to smile and so I did. It was lovely just the 2 of us, sat in the car watching it. I didn’t take any photos, I just lived the moment with my beautiful girl.
  8. Laura to visit Scotland for the first time
    • Yes! I had a lovely trip to Eagle Brae in January with some lovely blogging friends. What a beautiful place and I would love to return with my family.
  9. Do Go Ape
    • Yes! We did the junior Go Ape with the girls and it was brilliant. Holly was really brave and managed it once round the smaller course. Alice was amazing and did it 4 times!
    • I went and did Go Ape with my SIL and it was great fun. It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, but I’m really pleased that I did it.
  10. Andy to start running again
    • Yes! He has been really good and going a few times each week. He runs with his friend and I think this a great way to motivate yourself.
  11. Laura to learn Lightroom/Photoshop
    • I’ve brought them and I do use Lightroom. I now need to learn more about to get the best from it.

As A Family…

  • Go to a National Trust Property that we’ve not been to before
    • When we went glamping for the first time in Dorset, we took a trip to Corfe Castle. It was beautiful and definitely one of my favourite National Trust places we’ve been to.
    • We’ve also been to Basildon House for Easter and it was beautiful. They had an Easter trail and the girls loved it.
    • While we were in Cornwall we visited St Michael’s Mount and it was amazing. We timed it for when the sea was out and we walked across. The girls loved it! We had a picnic, looked around the castle and had a lovely time. It is Andy’s favourite now.
  • Go strawberry picking
  • Have a holiday abroad if possible.
    • We made a decision not to go abroad this year. The cost of it was ridiculous and we decided to use the money to have a holiday in the UK. A few little trips throughout the year and also to do the family room. It was definitely the best decision we made.
  • Take the girls camping
    • We’ve only managed to go glamping this year. We just didn’t have enough weekends to fit it in! Hopefully next year.
  • Visit Cornwall
    • We had a brilliant holiday in Cornwall. I fell in love with it and the girls had the best time. Alice was sadly poorly for some of it, but thankfully we still managed to fit a lot in and she had a brilliant birthday while we were there too.
  • Visit a theme park
    • We can definitely tick this one off. As we are Merlin Ambassadors this year, we’ve been really lucky and have been to Chessington World of Adventures and Alton Towers. With trips to more planned too!
    • We’ve also now been to Legoland as a family and Holly and I went with my parents too. We’re definitely making the most of our Merlin passes.
  • A trip to London
    • We had a lovely couple of days in London at October half term. We stayed at the Royal Garden Hotelwhich was lovely and we went to the London Eye, Sealife and Madame Tussuards.
  • Visit the Bluebells
    • Yes! We took our annual trip to the bluebells which the girls love and I got some beautiful family photos. It’s definitely one of our favourite places to go.
  • Collect conkers
    • Yes, we managed to find some conkers this year. Not as many as we would’ve liked, but there is always next year.
  • Go pumpkin picking
    • We had our annual trip to Millets Farm to pick our pumpkins. We always have a brilliant time and the girls love.
  • Find a sunflower field
    • We didn’t manage to do this, we just ran out of time. Next year!
  • Go to a new beach
    • While we were in Cornwall we visited several new beaches and I think our favourite one was Polzeath. It was really big and gave the girls lots of space to run around.
  • Go to Alton Towers
    • Yes! We went last week for 2 days and had an amazing time. We were really lucky to have a sunny day and the girls loved Cbeebiesland
    • As part of being an ambassador for Konfidence this year they sent to Alton Towers for the weekend to put our swim jackets to the test at Splash Landings. They also kindly booked us into the Cbeebies Hotel and it was amazing. The girls still talk about it now. The girls just love Splash Landings and we got to have the pool to ourselves for 45 minutes before it opened and that was pretty amazing.
  • Go ten pin bowling
    • We went for the first time as a family on the 1st January! It was great fun and the girls loved it. We will definitely be doing it again.
    • A few weekends ago we went with my family and the girls had a great time doing it with their cousin and uncle.
    • We can definitely tick this off the list, as we went again a couple of weekends ago when it poured with rain. We had a great time and its definitely become a new family favourite.
  • See a different Father Christmas experience
    • We went to Centre Parcs at the start of December and we did the Winter Wonderland Father Christmas experience. The girls loved it.
  • Have a weekend away
    • We’ve had a couple of weekends away already this year and we have 4 more booked in for the rest of the year. We decided to make this the year that we got away more and so far we’re loving our little adventures away.
    • We had a trip to Wales with my parents for my birthday which was lots of fun and the weather was brilliant.
    • We had a brilliant weekend away in Jersey. It’s someone I used to holiday a lot as a child and I couldn’t wait to take Andy and the girls. I think it’s one of the best trips we’ve had. The sun shone and there was lots for us to do, we didn’t want to leave.
    • We had a weekend away in London and it was brilliant. The girls had the best time and it was definitely something we will do again.
  • Go Glamping
    • We had a wonderful time glamping at Caalm Camp in Dorset in February. We were a bit apprehensive about it before we went, but it was brilliant fun. I can see us doing it again.

It’s been an amazing year for us as a family and a lot of that has been because of the experiences we’ve had thanks to my little blog. We will always be thankful for the opportunities that we get and all the late nights are 100% worth it.
