We’ve had such a lovely month and that is mainly down to the fact that we had the Easter holidays and Andy was off on the second week with us too. He hasn’t had any holiday since Christmas and we all needed this family time together, just the four of us.
I find that we are just so much better as a family unit when we are together. We get to the spend the bits together and not just the rushed mornings before school and work or the witching hour after dinner and before bed. Yes, we have every weekend together, but there is swimming lessons, parties and all the jobs to do that don’t get done in the week.
We had some lovely family days out and some lovely days at home. With Alice at school now she actually asks to have time at home. She wants to be able to play with her toys, do some colouring and go out in the garden. And I love this!
I loved the relaxed mornings and when the girls come running in. Never together and always one of them far too early! But, instead of rushing around, we could relax and just snuggle for a bit. Yes our days still have some structure to them, as kids get grumpy if they don’t have lunch at 12pm and Holly still has a nap at 1pm. Which lets be honest we all love, including Holly!
One of our days out was with my family on Easter Sunday, we planned to go to Highclere Castle for their Easter Egg hunt. We wanted to go last year, but it rained so hard that we couldn’t go. So, I was pleased to see we were going to have a dry day, well until about 4pm but we were home long before then.
I haven’t been to Highclere Castle for over ten years and the last time I went it was in the dark for a ball and it was outside in a large marquee, so I only got to see it lit up at night. Don’t get me wrong it was beautiful to see, but I longed to view the grounds too.
The Easter egg trail was perfect for this and took us all through their beautiful grounds. It’s hard to believe that this is someone’s home. But, it’s also the place that Peter Andre and Katie Price got married and now of course it is best known for the home of Downton Abbey.
I wasn’t disappointed it was stunning. Alice loved it and really wanted to go inside the castle, but sadly it was closed for the day. We made our way around the trail, Holly mainly on Andy’s shoulders and the girls were all given an Easter Egg at the end, a proper size one too!
As a family we meet up a lot, but one thing that we don’t have is a picture of all of us. The last photo which has most of us in, was after my niece was born, but before my girls were born. I knew how much my mum wanted to have a photo of us all, so I took my camera along in the hope we might just manage it.
Of course I forgot my tripod. So, we balanced my camera on our bags piled up high! Not only did we get a photo of all 9 of us, we are all pretty much looking at the camera…win win!!
Once we had the photo we wanted done, we let the girls run around and play. It always amazes me how much fun they can have in just open space. Of course they got the grown ups involved too and these are some of my favourite photos.
So, my me and mine photos this month are not just the four of us. But my extended family too and I love them!
