Me and Mine…A Family Project April 2016

Me and Mine…A Family Project April 2016

The lovely Lucy over at Dear Beautiful has the most wonderful project called Me and Mine. Here is what Lucy says about it…

“The Me and Mine Project is all about capturing your whole family together in a photograph. I feel really passionate about the importance of photographs of family, and not just photographs of children. Our children will want to see us present in their childhoods when they’re older. So we shouldn’t wait until the perfect day or until we lose a little weight, or until we get better at photography. What really matters in that we photograph all the memories, and that means all of us being in them.”

I was looking back at old photos recently for my Looking Back Series and I was sad to see that the last photo we had of all four of us was September last year. I always have great intentions of getting photos of us all, but I just forget. I knew about Lucy’s Me and Mine project, as she also has the Sibling Project which I do each month with pictures of my girls. But that is easy, as I love taking photos of them and I do it naturally. Taking photos of the four of us, takes a bit more organising and plus I would need Andy to agree…

I mentioned it to Andy last weekend when we were in Florence together and he agreed. Not only because he is really supportive of my blog, but he was also sad that we don’t have more photos of the four of us.

This only gave me five days to get the photos done and with Andy at work, it really only left us yesterday afternoon. Nothing like leaving it to the last minute. But, I really didn’t want to wait another month without some photos.

To be honest Friday afternoon is probably the worst time to try and get photos with the girls, especially Alice. She is super tired by Friday and I tend to have Friday afternoon as a lazy chill out afternoon at home or we pop to the cafe for a drink and biscuit. Holly was also not in a very happy mood after not much sleep the night before.

I thought I had it all planned, but then it rained and I had grumpy children. But, I was not going to let that stop me, we would have some photos of the four of us.

So, here are our first photos of the four of us as part of the Me and Mine Project. Taken indoors on our sofa and with children that wanted to be doing anything else but have their photo taken. But, do you know what I love them. I don’t just want the photos where we are all looking at the camera at the right time and smiling, yes a couple of those would have been lovely. I also want the ones that show how we are right at that moment…

Holly was upset as she wanted to sit with mummy…so we swapped…

And Alice decides to be funny…

I will try harder next month and give us more time to capture the photos. It would be nice to have at least one where we are all looking at the camera!

This is exactly how I have felt recently too. I rarely have pics of us all and so have joined in and hope to each month to capture our family.

Yes, it will hopefully mean lots of great photos are us all by the end of the year x

  2. It’s hard when you have a short window of time to try and capture the photos. Our photos this month were hurried ones too – grabbed during a brief moment when hubby was home! I do love the Me and Mine project – as you say it’s not necessarily about capturing perfect photos of the four of you together – it’s about capturing the moments of you as a family together – grumpy moments and all! 🙂

I joined in with the Me and Mine Project in Janyary after having one month last year where we had photos together, I am desperately trying to be organised but expect I’ll be taking some sofa ones soon! They are lovely and I’m sure you’ll look back fondly #MeandMineProject

It is so great to have these photos even if someone is pulling a face – that’s life with small children isn’t it!! Hope you had a nice time in Florence too xx

They show our life right now with a wriggly 20 month old! We had a fab time thank you x

  5. Yay! Welcome to the highly addictive world of Me and Mine!! I’m still working on trying to get everyone looking at the camera in my pictures but I love them for the same reason as yours, they show us as we really are right now not polished and spruced up and they hold our memories 🙂

Ahh these are lovely laura! So natural and a lot like the way most of mine turn out – my kids hate getting their photographs taken as much as I love taking them…not a good mix really! 😉 xx

Ah lovely to see you joining in. The me and mine project is great for having at least 12 photos a year of you all together as a family. It’s something I look forward to each month on my blog. xx
