We’ve been in our home for 18 months now and we’ve done a lot to turn it into our home. We’ve spent time making the lounge a place that Andy and I can relax in, at the end of each day. Whilst also giving the girls a play area, a place for all their toys to be in one place.
At the moment my favourite room in the house is our bedroom, the minute I saw the bedside tables that we have I knew I had to have them and I designed the room around them. I’m lucky that Andy leaves the interiors to me, most of the time.
We’ve been talking recently about extending the side of our house, to give us more space in the family room. I’d like to make it more of a snug area for the girls as they get older. There is going to come a time, when they will be staying up later and watching televisions programmes that we won’t want to watch. What I don’t want is for them to disappear up to their rooms, I would much rather have a space for them down here.
Of course extending our house makes me very excited, as it’s like having a blank canvas. We need to decide if we’re going to make it one level or two levels. I think while we’re doing it, we should look at making it a two storey building. By doing this we could buy a contemporary staircase, that would work well with the layout of the house.
Another option would be to add an external staircase, which could lead you down into the garden. I really like this idea for our bedroom, I don’t think I would trust the girls to not sneak out!
It would mean some disruption whilst the work is being done, but with having both girls at school in September it will be easier to manage. Plus it will definitely be worth it once it’s done.
Have you extended your home? I’d love to hear about it.
