I’ve seen Fairy Doors about for a while now and I’ve always thought what a lovely idea they are. I knew that it was something that I would love to do for my girls and I’ve been waiting for Holly to be old enough so that the girls could experience it together. So, when The Irish Fairy Door Company got in touch to send the girls one each, I jumped at the chance.
Alice is a little girl that loves fairies and princesses, she gets caught up in all the magic and it’s really lovely to witness. I couldn’t wait for them to arrive and to see their faces.
When they arrived I waited and opened them when Alice was at school and Holly was at preschool so that I could get them in place ready for later.
Inside was a fairy welcome guide, the fairy door, the family/fairy lease agreement, a key, stepping stones and a note pad.
The Irish Fairy Door company have different fairy doors that you can choose from. There are arched doors or rounded doors available, I went for the arched doors and they have various colours available. I choose pink for Alice and purple for Holly.
I decided to put both their doors on the skirting boards in each of their rooms. You could also put it on a window sill, but this wasn’t practical in our house. There wasn’t any instructions on the best way to attach the fairy door, so I used some foam pads that I had at home and these worked well.
They look so cute with the stepping stones outside.
With everything in place and the girls were home. I told them we had a surprise while they were out. I got the fairy welcome guide and started to read it to them. They had to name their fairy so that the queen fairy knew who to send. Alice named her’s Rosie and Holly (with help from Alice), named her fairy Primrose.
They were told to leave the key outside so their fairies can get in. They will know when their fairy has arrived as the key will disappear, as the fairy has to keep it with them at all times. I’m now worried that the girls will find where I’ve hid the keys!!!!
By this point the girls were ready to explode they were so excited, so it was time for them to run upstairs and find their fairy doors.
it’s a good job I had stuck it on well, as Holly tried to open the door!!!
Next it was time to write a note to welcome their fairy…
Alice was very excited about this and couldn’t wait to get started. She is really into writing at the moment and it’s a lovely way to get her practising to write.
With the notes written they popped them upstairs next to the door ready for when their fairies arrived.
It really was a magical experience. They kept running back and forth to each other’s rooms to see their doors. To check if the keys were still there, like they might actually see the fairy move in!
Of course I then had to creep into their rooms when they were asleep to remove the key and note and I replaced it with a note form each of their fairies.
The next morning I was woken up by a very excited Alice literally giddy with excitement that the key had gone, so her fairy must be in there. Plus they had left her a note. She couldn’t wait for Holly to wake up to see if her fairy had arrived too and surprise surprise it had…
Since then their fairies have left them little notes and Alice has kept every single one. It really is a magical experience and I’m so pleased that Primrose and Rosie have come to live with us.
You can buy the fairy doors priced at £16.95, here. They also have a wide range of other products too.
