We recently had a weekend at Alton Towers, where we enjoyed the Splash Landing Waterpark and a day at Alton Towers Theme Park. While we were at the theme park we headed to The Rollercoaster Restaurant for lunch. I had heard about the restaurant, but didn’t quite know what to expect until we arrived.
The girls were really excited when we told them their food arrived on a rollercoaster, I don’t think Alice could quite believe it. When we arrived, we were shown to our table and the waiter took his time to show us how it all worked. We had our own iPad and he walked us through how we order our food on it. Letting us know to just order 1 course at a time, otherwise it would all arrive at once. Basically as soon as you send your order to the kitchen, they just cook it and send it out.
All around the restaurant are rollercoasters and at the bottom of each one is 3 tables for people to sit at. We were sat at 1 of the tables.
Alice couldn’t wait to order her lunch on the iPad, she thought it was just amazing. There were lots of different options for the girls and drinks too.
It’s great that you can pass the iPad around and everyone can make their order. As you can see from their faces, ordering food is a serious business 🙂
It wasn’t long until our drinks were arriving down the rollercoaster, the excitement from the girls was so cute.
When I got my diet coke out, it was a bottle and underneath the rollercoaster along with the glasses, was a bottle opener. We really did have everything we needed.
Holly had ordered a milk and for practical reasons this was carried over to our table.
Our food then started to arrive with Alice and Andy’s arriving together. Alice had chicken goujons, chips and beans. The food arrives in a dish with a lid on and you then take it out and place on a plate that is also under the rollercoaster, along with knifes and forks and sauces.
Andy went for the chicken burger and chips.
My only slight issue with the way it works, is that Holly’s and my food didn’t arrive for quite a while after theirs. When I queried it, they said the kitchen literally send food down as it’s ready and doesn’t group them all together like you would normally have in a restaurant.
When ours did arrive, Holly had the same as Alice and I went for the chicken caesar salad, which probably didn’t work as well in trying to get it out of the dish and onto the plate. But it was one of the most delicious caesar salads I’ve had and there was a lot of chicken.
The girls then had ice cream for their dessert, which we ordered once we had finished our meal using the iPad. Andy and I were too full for a dessert.
Overall we had a lovely meal at the Rollercoaster Restaurant, the girls loved the uniqueness of it all and the food was very good.
What was interesting to find out is that you can either eat at the Rollercoaster Restaurant as a day guest while you are at the theme park. Or, you can come and dine there as an evening guest with your friends and family without having to purchase a theme park ticket and come to the restaurant when the theme park is closed. It would definitely make a lovely birthday treat!
