The Very Hungry Caterpillar was a favourite when I was a child and it’s a big hit for children now. Both my girls still love to read the book and I have to admit I love it too.
We were recently sent some The Very Hungry Caterpillar craft sets and I couldn’t wait to show Alice. The first one was A Very Hungry Caterpillar Door Hanger.
The door hanger is double sided with a different design on each side. It comes with a set up coloured pens to use to colour it in. Alice had the picture of the caterpillar in front of her, as she wanted to make sure she got it right and she had all the colours she needed.
Her attention to detail when it comes to colouring is really starting to improve. It’s such a milestone when they go from scribbling to taking their time to try and keep it within the lines.
It is really easy to colour the door hanger, the pens are really bright and vibrant on the wood.
Alice had lots of fun colouring in her door hanger and it now proudly hanging on her bedroom door.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is suitable for age 4+ and you can purchase it here.
We were also sent The Very Hungry Caterpillar Super Dough Model Kit. It comes with the different colours you need and a model knife to shape the dough. Plus some directions on what to do.
To begin with we made all the different parts that we needed. The dough was soft and whilst it was a bit tricky to get out of the pots. Once it was out, it was easy to mould into shape.
First you add the eyes, mouth and ears to the head.
Next we added the red body to the head.
And the spots onto the back of the caterpillar.
It was then time to added the legs to the body and that is your caterpillar ready.
To make the leaf, you take each of the green dough and shape into one half of the leaf.
It’s then time to position your caterpillar onto the leaf…And there you go all finished!
This model kit is designed for age 3+ and with Holly going to be turning 3 in a couple of months I think that if I made all the shapes, she would have been able to put the caterpillar altogether. Alice is 4 years old and as you can see she did a pretty good job.
You can reuse the dough over and over again. It’s available to buy here.
The lovely people at Rainbow Designs are giving one lucky person the chance to win these The Very Hungry Caterpillar Craft Kits. To be in with a chance of winning just complete one or more entries below. Good luck!
