Well what a month it has been. We moved house two weeks ago and it has been full on and non stop. I thought moving at the start of the month would be far enough away from Christmas for us to be able to get the house sorted and then get ready for Christmas. But, life is just so busy.
Being a school mum feels like a full time job sometimes, there is always an event going on or remembering that we have to take cakes in or Alice needs to wear party clothes for their Christmas party. In the evening’s Alice has been writing the cards for all her friends to post in the letter box they have at school.
Then there is the house to sort and unpack all the boxes. I’m normally the kind of person that just wants it all done and all straight immediately. But, I’ve had to accept that it’s just not realistic with Christmas around the corner. Our weekends are booked with lovely Christmas fun things, that we’ve had planned before we knew we were moving house.
So, last weekend we got the house to a point where all our every day things are unpacked and put away. Then all the boxes with the stuff in that we don’t use or not that often is in boxes in the spare room and I’ve closed the door. I’m hoping that if I can’t see them I won’t be stressing over it. Then after Christmas we can tackle them, when January tends to be a quieter month.
Through all of this the girls have been amazing. They’ve both settled so well in the new house and their bedrooms. Holly is at an age where as long as she is with us and has things around her that is familiar she is happy. I don’t think she has even commented on the fact we are in a different house!
Alice of course is older and a bit wiser. But once we reassured her that her bed and everything else in the house would be coming with us, she was happy. Bless her, she thought that because we sold the house it meant everything in it too.
Normally we put our tree up on the first weekend in December, but as we moved house then it was just too busy. Alice asked if we could do it last weekend and whilst the house was still a bit hectic I didn’t want to disappoint her. I cleared a space in the window and the girls and I decorated the tree.
Holly is like a whirlwind normally, but she was really careful when putting the decorations on the tree. It was lovely to watch them both doing it. Alice remembering the decoration that she decorated the year before at the pottery place. So many family memories already on our tree, I love it.
Once we finished and turned the lights on. Our house immediately became a home, it was the best decision we made putting the tree up. Seeing it twinkling away in the window and the girls giddy with excitement, that is what its all about.
I took these photos of the girls then, Holly wasn’t really in the mood as you can probably tell. But that is my life right now, she is either the little showgirl asking me to take her picture or she isn’t interested. But they are the first photos taken in our new home and for that reason I will always love them.
Finally as it’s the end of year, a round up of my girls in 2016. What a difference a year makes…
