When I first became a blogger it was all about me getting my thoughts out of my head and onto the screen, I didn’t really think about anything else past that and I definitely didn’t think about photos and what camera I was using.
A lot of my photos were taken with my phone, it was quick and easy to do and always nearby. I didn’t think about the exposure of a photo or how to change shutter speed to get the photos that I desired.
Over time I fell more in love with blogging and I was learning fast all the elements that come with having a blog, there is a lot of behind the scenes tasks that people don’t see. One thing that I very quickly started to fall more in love with was photography.
I’ve always had a love of taking photos, I was always the person on a night out with the disposable camera snapping away. I just love capturing the moments and as mobile phones started to have cameras on them it became easier to do.
There came a point where I wanted my photos to become as important as my writing, they can help to tell a story and I could see that they needed to be more hand in hand. At this point I had a gx7 canon, which I loved. It was small and compact enough for me to take out and I took use it for videos too.
But I really wanted to take my photography to the next level and I started to look into what camera would be best suited to my needs. I have 2 children and I didn’t want to be taking out a large camera bag everywhere we went. I also wanted to be able to capture the candid moments, where my girls are not necessarily aware of the camera.
I very quickly fell in love with the Olympus Pen 8. It was still small enough for me to easily take out and about, it didn’t feel intrusive on our days out. Yet it still gave me beautiful photos.
I learnt how to use it with the shutter speed, ISO and how to achieve the photos that I wanted for my blog. I recently invested in a new lens and already can see the difference that this brings to some of my photos, I love it.
For me the Olympus Pen 8 is a great camera for a blogger. It is small enough to take everywhere, its easy to use, it takes beautiful photos and it looks great too. It ticks all the boxes.
