The day we came home having reserved our new home, I was really excited and started to imagine us living there. I had pictured in my mind where our sofa would go in the lounge, the perfect place for the dining room table and which bedrooms would be the girls.
One room that I was particular excited about was the spare room, it was going to be a room that would be multi functional. We wanted to have be able to have an option for people to be able to stay over, but we didn’t want a double bed taking up all the room. As we wouldn’t have people over that often. We also wanted to create a little den for the girls, somewhere as they grow up they could go and watch television in the mornings and not wake mummy and daddy up ( this maybe wishful thinking).
With Alice now at school and Holly starting preschool for one morning a week, I now have time in the day to do my writing. Over time this will become more than just one morning, as we increase Holly hours at preschool in September and I know that the next eighteen months will flyby and she will soon be off to school.
I want to create a space for me, a place that I can come to write. Somewhere away from all the daily household chores that are staring me in the face, trying to distract me from getting my work done.
In our old house Andy had a small study with a desk in it, but it was a desk like the furniture at work. It was big and practical, that I didn’t mind in the old house, because I never saw it or really went into his study. It wasn’t my style at all.
I want to create a space that it light and inspires me to want to write. I also want a place to put my pretty notebook and planner. Somewhere for all my receipts, ready for the dreaded tax return. But, I don’t have a lot of space in the room for all of this.
I have been taking a look at some furniture that I like and that I think will fit into the space that I do have. The colour scheme that I have in the room is white, grey and a pink blush colour and I really like this filing cabinet that I think would match perfectly…
This desk from IKEA looks ideal for what I need. It is just the right size to fit into my space, it has a draw and a cupboard to pop all by bits away and it’s a great price!
I love this stationery that I picked up in Sainsbury’s at the weekend. I do admit that I have a bit of a stationery addiction, but this is really pretty and I thought it would look lovely sat on my new desk.
All that is left is for me to find a nice lamp to go on my desk, as I sometimes work in the evenings too. I would also like something to go on the wall, a nice pretty frame would be good.
I know that I like to have a good nose of other people’s houses, if you are interested I will do a home tour video once it’s all done. Let me know in the comments below and I will film one.
