Alice has been going to preschool for just over a year now and she loves it. Her preschool isn’t too far from where we live, which means we are able to walk there and it quickly became one of my favourite times of the day.
Part of the walk includes a walkway and it is a place that when I have both girls, they can have a bit of freedom from holding my hand. They can walk together, there really is nothing I love more than watching my girls take each others hand and walk along together.
Then there are the times when I go to pick Alice up and I take Holly along in her trike. She loves a ride in it and for me it keeps one of them contained, making it a bit easier on the walk back. But even though Holly is in her trike, on the walk home, Alice will still walk by her side chatting away.
And sometimes it is just Alice and I, walking along having a chat, she really is the best company.
And other times she loves to run and jump all the way to the end…
But no matter what, the moment that I love most is on the way home and I can talk to her about what she has been doing, knowing that the minute we get inside the front door all thoughts of preschool will be gone. I soak up every last detail of what she has been doing whilst she wasn’t with me.
Sometimes its like banging your head against a brick wall trying to find out what she has been up to, but I have learnt a few tricks over the last year to get little snippets from her.
She has grown up so much over the last year and just looking back at this picture of her on her first day I can see just how much.
Alice January 2015
Tomorrow we find out which school Alice will be going to in September and whilst I am nervous and anxious about it. I am also sad that whichever school Alice will go to, we will no longer be able to walk to school and I will really miss it.
So, for now our ordinary moment of walking to preschool will become a special moment for the next few months. Moments that I will hold on to and cherish forever, because the clock is ticking and before I know it July will be here and that will be the end of Alice’s preschool walk.
