A couple of weeks ago we were looking for somewhere we could go for a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon, where the girls could have a run about. I remembered I used to go to a place in Abingdon, called Abbey Meadows when I was a child. It was somewhere I went a lot as a child and I remember there was lots of grass and a place they could go on their scooters.
We set off and when we arrived it was great to see that Oxfordshire Council give everyone 2 hours free parking in all the car parks, regardless of what day of the week it is. As we were only going to be here for a couple of hours, it didn’t cost us anything.
The girls were excited to see an ice cream van in the car park and I promised them one a bit later on. The girls got on their scooters and loved the freedom.
I couldn’t believe when we got around the corner and saw the park. It was massive and I definitely had nothing like that when I came as a child.
The girls scooted around and loved having the freedom of not being near roads. We stopped for a rest and the girls played football and catch with Andy.
Holly sat with me and we made daisy chains, Alice came and joined us too. I love these simple moments.
And then we headed back to the play area, where they were spoilt for choice on what to play on. But as soon as Alice saw the monkey bars, we couldn’t get her off them. She loves monkey bars and has amazing upper strength.
Holly and I explored the park more and she loved it all.
Alice did join us for a go on the slide when we saw it was big enough for them both to go on together.
It was then time for that ice cream I promised them and I headed back to the car park to buy them. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t cost me a fortune and I got change from a £10!
There is a splash area that is open in the summer, which you can just see the other side of these trees. The girls would love this on a hot day.
We had a lovely afternoon and it only cost us an ice cream (or 4!). We will definitely be returning with a picnic and hopefully our swimsuits next time.
