At the start of this year Andy and I decided that we were going to make more of our time together as a family and go on more mini adventures. We always did have a holiday every year and lots of lovely family days out. But we stayed away from having nights away, with the exception of our holiday, because Alice can be a bit of a pickle when she sleeps away from home and isn’t in her own room.
But we decided to put Alice’s sleeping (or non-sleeping) to one side and book more mini trips away. Part of us hoped that if we did it more often maybe she would get used to it and part of us hoped that now she was older and we can to talk to her more rationally that would help too!
Anyway so far we’ve stayed away from home three times this year already and its been brilliant. Alice has slept and we’ve all had a great time. Which has made us even more pleased that we made this decision to go away more as a family.
This summer we’ve got some great adventures planned with a mini break to Jersey and our holiday to Cornwall and we’re all very excited about them all.
We’ve also got better at being more spontaneous at the weekends and throwing everything in the car and heading out for the day. A couple of weekends ago we did just that and went to the beach for the day. As we were driving down we were questioning our decision as it looked a bit cloudy. But I’m so pleased that we did as the sun broke through the clouds and it was a gorgeous sunny day.
The girls were all set for a day at the beach, as the Disney Store had kindly sent them everything they would need for a summer of adventures.
The girls were dressed for the occasion in their cute Disney t-shirts. Alice had a mermaid t-shirt and Holly had a Minnie Mouse t-shirt, they loved them.
They were each sent a backpack, which was ideal for them to pop everything they needed for the beach in and it meant when we arrived they could carry it themselves. We all know how much you need to take for a trip to the beach!
Alice got this gorgeous Little Mermaid Backpack.
And Holly got this beautiful Moana Backpack. These bags have since come everywhere with us. Holly won’t leave hers behind no matter where we’re going.
Inside their bags they each had their own Little Mermaid Towel and Moana Towel. Alice thought she was very grown up laying out her own towel to sunbathe on, don’t they just make you laugh. Of course Holly had to copy her sister.
You can see they were both sent some Disney Princess Sunglasses, which they loved twinning in.
Also popped into their bags was a drinking bottle each, Alice had a Little Mermaid one and Holly had Moana and I’m pleased to say they didn’t leak. Always a win!
A trip to the beach or in fact any day out over the summer isn’t complete without a picnic. My girls love a picnic no matter where we are, we even have them at home in the garden and in the winter we’re known to have indoor carpet picnics too.
We were kindly sent this fabulous Micky Mouse cool bag in the shape of a lemon, which Alice just loved. When I first saw it I wasn’t sure we would fit everything in due to the shape of it. But its size is deceptive and I got everything in no problem.
When we were eating our picnic I asked the girls what they were most looking forward to this summer. I wasn’t surprised by Alice’s answer. “To go to Cornwall Mummy, because it will be my birthday and if it’s a nice day we can go to the beach”. She is just ridiculously excited that we’re going to be on holiday for her birthday and I just hope we can make her wish come true.
Holly said “To go on the boat Mummy”. We’re having a mini break to Jersey and are travelling by ferry, which the girls haven’t done before. Holly just loves boats.
We had a lovely day at the beach and it made me really excited for the summer ahead of us. With lots of lovely things planned as well as lots of nice quieter days at home.
As I think it’s important that we get a balance of fun days out and time at home too. My girls love to play in the garden and will happily play out there all day. With our new Little Mermaid Bubble and Splash Sprinkler to use, I can see them having even more fun!
As much as I can’t wait for the summer, I also don’t want to wish the time away as it also means we’re one step closer to little Holly joining Alice at school. Whilst I’m not ready for that to happen, she is definitely ready and very excited about it. She already wants to take her Moana backpack and drink bottle to school with her.
I noticed that the Disney Store have their summer sale on at the moment and a lot of these items are in the sale as well as a lot more!
